LICHTblick

Wotruba Church Vienna

"LICHblick" - an artistic intervention on the façade of the Wotruba Church, the Church of the Holiest Trinity, in Vienna.

To mark the 50th anniversary of the groundbreaking ceremony for this building designed by Fritz Wotruba, a 3D mapping projection installation transformed the building into a lively interplay of light and sound. In doing so, the work referred to the defining architectural concrete elements, transforming them from their solid appearance and lending them lightness and transparency. The result was a multi-layered interplay of light and shadow, accompanied by a specially created sound collage.  The projection content was realised in collaboration with Dirk Pfeifer and Haselbusch.

In the 15-minute show, the three elements of light, matter and sound became an artistic symphony that, like the Trinity, presented itself as an inseparable unit. The words of Fritz Wotruba served as inspiration for this work: "Design something that shows that poverty does not have to be ugly, that renunciation can be in an environment that is beautiful and also makes you happy despite its great simplicity."  This intervention took place on the "20th Long Night of the Churches" on 7 June 2024.
